Personality: Marie is a person who is 'hard to get to know' and shows many different sides depending on who is near her. She can be both temperamental, mistrusting, and suffers no fools but she can also be loving, fiercely loyal, and eager to help when she deems a cause to be worth the trouble it could cause or bring to her doorstep. She also seems to be reluctant to help others (though, she is not above agreeing to take money or something similar in exchange for her assistance - she is desperate herself, she is just more prone to caving in and helping and holding up her end and then some). To those she trusts and knows well, she lets her opinions and questions flow freely from her mouth and mind. Those who she distrusts (everyone else) she appears to be aloof, flighty, proud, and as if she moves a step back or to the side for every one they take towards her. Her actions (movement) can be described as chaotic by those who do not know her and are simply observing her. Her motives for her actions and reactions are a mystery to everyone but herself but she seems comfortable with herself and how she lives life. When given the chance to warm up entirely to a person, she shows many occasions of being caring and even acting as an "anchor" to them when they seem to be lost or about to drift away from reality.

She also does "motherly" things on occasion such as helping take care of fevers or injuries. She is perceptive to their feelings and tries her best to not step on them too much and even take care of her own needs so they won't have to worry (this does cause some worry on occasion and she knows from that point she will have to answer their questions even if its with one word). However, she is not entirely "cold" towards others, she does smile, laugh, and speak to them in a friendly, though cautious manner. She does understand the need to "make friends" on occasion to get things done and will even try to talk them into helping her in some way (she tried to marry someone for a green card, though that was some sweet talk and money she offered. The plan did fail).

She is a born worrier, though she does her best to not let those worries show and instead show a more positive (well, a realistic by her standards such as "People can do all sorts of amazing things they they are scared") outlook on what is happening around her. Even if all she is able to do is just stick around and do her part, or even give a few words of encouragement or belief. Sometimes she says nothing but the fact she sticks around says it all. If she is unable to show a positive face, then she instead chooses to face it with the bravest face she can muster or one of complete indifference if she feels that what she sees going on around her is something that is not worth getting involved with or is something she deems to be impossible. She generally will go out of her comfort zone when she feels that something that may or is happening is truly a "bad thing" such as the possibility of children being hurt (even if she does not know them). She often tries to cope with her nerves or anxiety by rambling/telling stories about her shenanigans from years past or by finding something else to focus on (finding music on the radio, for example).

If there was one thing she hates, it would be being ordered around unless she sees their being a valid reason for why she is being told what to do (or at least having it put in a way where she can just go along with it or be unable to argue). She is one for making her own decisions and can deviate from agreed plans if she finds her way may work better or be more simple. She also strongly dislikes when she feels someone is trying to shut her out or hide things from her, though she is more understanding of their reasons in those situations and tends to voice her thoughts or offer help and leave it be. She also hates feeling as if her hands are tied or she is stuck in one place with nowhere to go or escape to. This comes from years of wandering and it is hard for her to break such a habit. Being tied down to even another person, relying on another person is extremely difficult for her even after a couple years of knowing them. Though, she never states her reasons for being so aloof and unwilling to trust people, she sees that as her own business and her own problem to deal with. Though, she does make it clear to anyone to uses the reasoning that they are trying to do what's right by her or someone else, that she thinks of them as lying and that "no one does the right thing". However, even her ability to remain calm and understand can reach its limit and when it does she tends to flee, panic, or shut down entirely. Sometimes she allows a few tears to slip through, other times she is stunned.

There are occasions when she is able to contain herself, but those are a relatively recent thing for her and that was due to the little bit of training she was given on what to do or where to go when things become too dangerous and she needed to flee. Never once has she been known to actually physically fight or cause harm to another and even will try to call out to stop others from doing so, the most she has been seen to do and her "go to" idea is to quickly jump into a car and begin to drive away or to offer to do so. To put that simply, she finds violence to be the worst possible solution for a problem and sees it as a cycle that is never ending. Though, she understands that the world that had created her belief is not the one she is still living a apart of. The world she had become a part of just by a mere meeting is much more gray than black or white. But, she chooses to stick to her figurative guns, especially, once she realizes how damaged a person can become when they do such things (whether it be choice or necessity). Her need to remain living by her code, is a good example of her stubbornness and resistance to some changes (she is generally willing to go with the flow on most things such as moving from place to place).

She also has a strong sense of curiosity when something peaks her interest and if asking does not get her what she wants to know, she will look around and piece an explanation together herself. She simply prefers avoiding conflict whenever possible and only steps in when something is a threat to herself, someone she cares for, or goes against her moral system. She also seems to have a "healing" presence to her, much like sunlight or a gentle breeze despite her confusing persona. She carries herself as if she has spent a lot of time watching the "outside" while remaining in her own internal world. One trait of that world is one that shows itself in the criminal record that she has more nonviolent crimes such as credit fraud (she had been detained in Italy). She is more "naive" compared to her canonmates and she struggles with the radical change that the events she has been placed into has caused. However, if asked, she would say that she feels like she is "more alive" than before. It's that habit of being able to "look in from the outside" that means she can place herself with a little more ease in her charge's shoes. She just knows what it's like to be in a messed up place and knows how to mess up even further. Simply put? She is someone who seems to be watching life from a distance, joining in when she wants and backing out when it becomes overwhelming. But, she is slowly starting to learn that the world is not as black and white as she had thought it was and how to rely on others and allow them to rely on her.

The only thing she could say when the red bag had been placed into her arms was nothing. Not one single word had even thought to come up and out of her mouth. Not even her usual choice word for everything that had been confusing, terrifying, or more often than not annoying would let itself be blurted out. She had only managed to give him a look that was not much different than of a deer staring at a car's headlights while standing on a dark road and the most her body had allowed her to do was numbly take the bag and let her jaw drop slightly. Not enough that it had been noticeable (or so she told herself once she could even start to think clearly) to even herself but no one had mentioned it out loud or gave her a weird look. She realized about halfway through that she knew that this was about and that was even with her not being able to truly hear what was being said to her. Though, anyone who just lived through whatever -that- was could piece it together. Her eyes decided at that one moment to simply lower to the ground. This whole mess had been her fault, hadn't it?

She had not expected Eamon and his kids to show up nor had she expected something that involved gunfire and an explosion to happen. She had found herself not needing to hear the rules she would have to live by for the rest of her life. No friends, no family?

She felt her lips pursed when she realized that the the former would be harder than the latter. Nothing familiar? Her entire life had been about what was different and she saw no reason why that would ever change even if this "adventure" hadn't happened after all. She supposed he was trying to make himself feel better or justify what she had sensed was going to happen. But she had simply tightened her grip on the bag, hoping that she (for once) would be wrong. However, once she got a good look at his face, once had willed herself to take a good long look.

"So, he had decided then," the little voice that had rarely ever spoke but would be described as the one in the back of her head voice with some annoyance and some sadness, "he's going to take off and leave without me."

"What about you?"

Those had been the first words she had managed to herself say and that had taken all of her nerve to sound out.

"What are you going to do?"

Her heart had nearly stopped when she asked that question because she had realized that if she had to ask him that, then whatever that was - the thing she had thought they had agreed on wasn't going to happen.

"Ugh, what were you thinking, Marie? Come on...this was not supposed to go this way. At all." The voice had grown a little a little louder, a little more irritable, embarrassed even.

"Besides, wanting to go with him? You're stupid, but not that stupid, right? And another thing, a conversation in the middle of the night is not a binding contact. It wasn't a promise..."

But no answer had come, especially not the answer she had wanted to hear.

(Her inner voice had decided to chide her at this point, "No, no tears.")

Whatever that answer she was expecting was, she had not gotten it. As she had been rushed into the Jeep and just as she had managed to almost sit down and shut the door she felt the car almost instantly begin to move and it had then started to move faster and faster- she had found herself looking back until he had vanished from her sight and in a hurt tone she had muttered a strained, "Nobody does the right thing."
